An update regarding the 2022 Gathering

After much prayer, conversation and tears, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2022 Gathering, MYLE and the tAble due to the ongoing pandemic, the recent COVID-19 surge and public health considerations.

We know there are thousands of young people who will not get to experience the Gathering, and our hearts break for them. This was not an easy decision, and we ask for your prayers and your grace. We understand the impact this decision will have on our youth, volunteers and planning teams, and we hope to return to Minneapolis for a future Gathering.

Registered congregations can visit their registration accounts starting Monday, Feb. 7, to select their desired refund option.

With God’s power at work in and through us, we can do far more than we dare ask or imagine! The ELCA is fully committed to supporting the young people of our church and to seeing that the ministry of the Gathering, MYLE and the tAble continue for years to come. With that assurance, we are turning our attention toward 2024 for the next Gathering. Stay tuned to Gathering communications for a location announcement this summer.

Grace and peace.

The Youth and I are, of course, heartbroken. But we shall persevere! We are in the process of planning a service opportunity for the same timeframe this summer, and your previous donations to the Youth going to the Youth Gathering will be used for a similar trip this summer and/or saved for the 2024 Youth Gathering. Want to help us? Want to go with us? Have an idea? Email Deacon Mandy or talk to our Youth!

What You’re Missing in Bible Study

You know that Pastor Tim teaches a weekly Bible Study on Thursdays at noon, right? Then you also know that you can join from anywhere via Zoom (the usual password – call the church office if you need it). It’s right at your lunch break! You could even invite your boss and co-workers.

What you might not know about is all the cool stuff you’re missing out on when you’re not in attendance! Oh sure, deep dives into the bible, our Lutheran roots, the fellowship of learning and being together… but also – you’re missing out on learning about the Cat Piano. And that is surely a shame!

The Cat Piano or Organ was invented hypothetically by Athanasius Kircher in his 1650 work “Musurgia Universalis”.

And it is NOT Church Cat Ronald approved.

Wikipedia says: A cat organ or cat piano is a hypothetical musical instrument which consists of a line of cats fixed in place with their tails stretched out underneath a keyboard so that they cry out when a key is pressed. The cats would be arranged according to the natural tone of their voices.

Pretty ridiculous, right?

Wonder what a Cat Piano has to do with Bible study?

Well then, join us on Thursdays and uncover more wonders – Godly, ridiculous, and otherwise – with your CtK family.

March 2022 — Pastor Tim’s Thoughts

March 2022 — Pastor Tim’s Thoughts

Note: Pastor Tim will be on Renewal Leave from June 6, 2022 through September 19, 2022.

Today, I’m praying.

Today, the only story plastering the news is about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. And I’m praying.

Praying for peace to prevail instead of war.

Praying for a world of mutual encouragement instead of hate.

Praying for hope in the midst of the despair certainly felt by those in harm’s way.

Today, I’m also taking time to pray with my silence.

Today, I’m breathing in the tender ferocity of the Holy Spirit, and straining my ears to hear what words she has to say to me, to my hurting heart, to my frantic mind.

Today, I’m praying.

Prayer is an essential discipline to the Christian walk of faith. Through prayer, we become connected – intimately, spiritually – with others and with God who sits with us, listens to us, and attends to our needs and cries. Often, my time for praying is brief. Often, my prayers are one-way communications where I make known my needs and desires to God. But on days like today, I find that my words fail me, and I can only sit and trust that God knows what my sighs mean.

Today, I’m praying.

Prayer will have a central place during my Renewal Leave this summer. When other distractions are gone, when I am blessed with time to focus on my health, in all of its dimensions, prayer will be a practice that will enable me to center myself and take nourishment from the roots of my faith. I’m looking forward to the ways that time spent focusing on this gift will enable me to be renewed. May you find your prayer life to do the same for you.
