Membership – Building Relationships

This team promotes fellowship and encourages service to others within our congregation.

Membership Team Leaders:

New Member Classes

This class introduces prospective members to the background of the Christ the King Lutheran Church as well as the Lutheran Church in general. If you are interested in joining CtK, talk to Interim Pastor Neal after church, send him an email at PastorNeal@ctkdurango.org, or call him at the office, 970-247-5310.

Fellowship Committee

This important committee provides food and drink for three kinds of gatherings at CtK:

Coffee Hour – After each Sunday service, volunteers provide coffee and light refreshments in the Fellowship Hall. The atmosphere is relaxed and there’s usually a lot of laughter. This is a great time for members and visitors to meet, catch up, and get to know each other better.

Individuals and groups sign up to cover coffee hour after the service of their choice. Step-by-step instructions are posted in the kitchen. (For people who can’t host a coffee hour, there’s the option of baking some homemade goodies and leaving them in the freezer, to be pulled out some week when we don’t have a host.) Sign up online or contact: Effie Christiansen or Renate, 970-259-5996.

Special Events and Pot Lucks – The people of CtK love getting together, sharing meals and celebrating special occasions as a family in Christ.  We gather for major events like Easter Breakfast and Rally Day, but being Lutherans, sometimes we just feel the need for an old-fashioned pot-luck.

The Fellowship Committee needs brothers and sisters to share their favorite side dishes and desserts, help with set up and clean up, and coordinate these delicious feasts.  You will usually find special event sign-up sheets in the Welcome Center. Contact: Effie Christiansen or Renate, 970-259-5996.

Memorial and Celebration of Life Services– Families may request light luncheons or coffee and cake to follow services for their loved-ones.  This is a wonderful way for us to support one another in a sad time, and it allows us a way to give thanks for knowing that person in life on this earth.  What a blessed way to serve!  We need volunteers to make phone calls, bake, set up, serve, and clean up afterward.Contact: Diane Williams.

Meals Ministry

Is there an illness, injury, newborn or death in the family and you need a helping hand? Do you need meals, a sitter, or someone to go grocery shopping for you? At Christ the King, you have an extended family that is willing to help you.  Call or email the church office, 970-247-5310, to let us know what you need or how you can help. (Remember, you can also ask for a Stephen Minister to provide ongoing spiritual support during and after a crisis.)

Stewardship Committee

Although stewardship refers to caring for all of God’s creation, the Stewardship Committee is specifically concerned with financial stewardship. This is an ad hoc committee, requiring a very short-term commitment during our Fall pledge drive. Committee members help with temple talks, announcements, and one big mailing to the congregation in October.

Special Interest Groups

  • CtK Piecemaker Quilters – Have you ever wanted to learn to quilt? Well, come join us in learning how to make a quilt, making quilts for others, or just enjoy some conversation with other women. We meet the second Thursday of each month from 11:00 – 3:00 in the Fellowship Hall. We usually bring our lunch and have a time of just chatting and catching up. We make quilts for charity, baptismal quilts, and prayer quilts, and have recently added some quilts for the kids in Africa. We always have fun and usually get something accomplished, so come join us. For more information, call Judy Danielson at home, 970-247-9730, or at Durango Quilt Company, 970-247-2582.

  • CTK Outdoors- We live in a beautiful part of the country, but many of us don’t take the time to really

enjoy it. Some of us don’t exactly know where to go; others aren’t sure if they can handle the physical strain. CtK Outdoors is a group made just for us. This group offers people of different abilities a range of outdoor activities from backpacking to snowshoeing to enjoying a picnic. Contact: Holly through the CtK office, 970-247-5310.

  • Dinner Adventures – This group requests the pleasure of your company!  Singles and couples volunteer to host or attend dinners and social mixers throughout the year. A host is needed for each gathering of 6 to 12 people. The host decides upon the date and time for the dinner, and also provides the main course. The guests bring appetizers, beverages, vegetables, bread and desserts. One of the goals of this group is to rotate participants for each event so that we can each expand our circle of friends. Join us to share in the fun and enjoy the food! Contact: Linda, 970-403-3192.

  • CtK Book Club – We are always looking for new people to share their views and insights on what we are reading. If you enjoy reading, please join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month for a book discussion from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Contact: Sharon Wiebel, 970-247-4763
