Christ the King
Mission Endowment Fund

“I will bless you…and you will be a blessing.”     Genesis 12:2

What is the CtK Mission Endowment Fund?

  • This fund is designed to support the work of Christ the King Lutheran Church in and beyond our community. Although it is intended primarily as a recipient for end-of-life gifts, the fund also receives gifts of thanksgiving and celebration from congregational members, their families and friends of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

  • This is a permanent endowment fund that is separate from day-to-day operating funds of the church. It is designed to provide long-term growth of assets, so the fund can endure to continue God’s work within our church, the community and the world.

  • The fund can accept cash, checks, and electronic transfers, as well as gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. It is also possible to make the endowment fund a beneficiary of life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and trusts and to set up charitable gift annuities.

What Types of Gifts Can I give to the Fund?

  • Cash Contributions – No matter what size, these gifts are always welcome.

  • Memorial Gifts – Contributions of money or property are dedicated in memory of family and friends.

  • Thanksgiving Gifts – Celebrate special occasions such as births, baptisms and wedding anniversaries.

  • Bequests – A bequest is a gift designated in your will. It ensures that your end-of-life gift to the fund is made according to your wishes.

  • Securities and Real Estate - Gifts of appreciated stocks and bonds can often provide significant tax advantages to donors.

  • Life Insurance – You can make a gift of an existing policy or purchase another with the fund as the principal beneficiary.

  • Charitable Gift Annuity – A charitable gift annuity provides income for you during your lifetime and a contribution to the fund at your death.

  • Trust – Trusts may be established with the fund as the named beneficiary.

What Will My Gift Do?

At the time your gift is received, 10% of the gift is immediately given to ministry; the remaining 90% is then invested in a trust administered by the ELCA Foundation.

Each year, 5% of the value of the fund is distributed among 3 general categories corresponding to the mission statement of our church: outreach to the congregation, our community and the world.

Examples of recent grant recipients:

  • Children’s World

  • CtK’s Love Fund

  • Seminary students

  • Engineers Without Borders

  • Water projects in Asia and Africa

  • CtK youth mission trips

How Do I Apply for a Grant?

The board evaluates applications based on congruence with our church’s mission statement:

“To love and serve God by proclaiming Christ’s gospel, strengthening worship, deepening discipleship and serving our congregation, community and world.”

Grant recipients do not have to be Christian, as long as the money will be spent in accordance with CtK’s mission. Grant applications should be received by October 15th for disbursements the following February.
