Introduction to Editing

  • Before you start, copy the URL and open this page in a second browser window, so you can keep these instructions available while using the other window to experiment on the editors’ practice page.

  • To get to the editing screen, make sure you are logged in, then choose “Edit Page” from the menu above the practice page, or click the small blue “Edit” below the text.

  • Toggle the kitchen sink icon, second from right in the editing menu, so you have two lines of editing choices.
  • Toggle between the visual and HTML editing screens using the tabs on the upper right. You will likely prefer the visual screen to start with, then become more comfortable with HTML with practice.
  • Use a Microsoft Word document as backup for all your editing experiments. Before you edit, copy the existing HTML and paste it into the document. You might want to keep adding to the same document over the weeks to keep everything in one place and so you can refer back it to later.

  • Click the blue “Update” button, to the right of the editing screen, when you want to save your work.

  • Test everything you edit or create.
