Pastor John Knutson

Pastor John was born in Amery, Wisconsin, and was raised on a dairy farm. He was only fifteen years old when his mother died. When his father remarried, John went from being the eldest of four children to the eldest of nine.

(Yes, Pastor John really is as friendly as he looks.)

After high school, he worked at a dairy cooperative and a Christian school for troubled youth. He attended the University of Wisconsin, then earned his Master of Divinity Degree at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. He served his initial call at First Lutheran in Ault, Colorado.

He moved to Durango in 1994, and has served as pastor at Christ the King Lutheran Church since then, even while earning his Doctor of Ministry in Preaching degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 2004.

Pastor John is married to Diane, who works as a family law attorney and municipal court judge. She loves to play the flute and is a Stephen Ministry Leader. Their son Pat is in college and plays the stand-up and electric bass. John enjoys volunteering with Durango Fire and Rescue, canoeing and drinking Mountain Dew.
